About Winton Shire Council
Winton is located in Central Western Queensland on the Landsborough Highway, 178 kilometres north-west of Longreach, and approximately 1,353 kilometres from Brisbane City; covering 53,935 square kilometres and boasting a population of around 1,600 people.
Problem
Winton Shire Council started investigating companies to design, fabricate and install a touch screen as part of the Elderslie Street Refurbishment project in 2019. Part of this project was a touch screen designed primarily for tourists to access attractions and events around the region. Thermal performance is critical for Winton Shire Council – the screen would be in the middle of the street with little to no shade. In summer ambient temperatures spike up to 50ºC and the surface of metal objects easily exceeds 80ºC. Metromatics were confident they could deliver a suitable design and work proceeded. The project had two components – the bespoke design of the screen and the interactive software to drive it.
Metromatics turns to LaunchPADS for the interactive software design and implimentation.
Solution
LaunchPADS worked with Metromatics and the Winton Shire Council to develop a functional, easy to navigate wayfinding solution. LaunchPADs produced a series of different designs, fitting around the style from the shire Council, then developed the PADS4 software to produce a presentation. The presentation is self contained within the sign, with Internet not avaliable at this site.
